Against All Odds
The day before yesterday, while having my dinner, Roti John Bazaar, I watched a channel 5 tv show. It is about Dr Kelvin Wong. He is actually blind since 10yrs old. He has difficulty reading from the blackboard in class. He has to copy from his classmates' handwritten book or sometimes he got help from his teachers. But that too was very difficult. Not just tat he was taunted in school. They wave in front of him asking him "Can you see? Can you see?".
All that does not dither him to pursee his degree. He went to London to enroll in a uni for the blind. He took Japanese studies cos of interest. So he has to work extra hard to do research. Everyday, he will go to the library, he will use the microscopic machine to magnify the wording so that he can read each lettering or words. He also make use of the translator. This translator will read out the scanned page. So for him, he has to scan the whole book content & listen in order to know what's the content of the book.
At last, with sheer determination & discipline, he got himself PHD & the title "Doctor".
He does not stop there, he currently working & using a normal pc. He built himself a content reader, where this reader will read out the screen page of his Pc. He is very jovial & happy. After 3 goal in the olympics, he does not stop swimming. He did charity by taking part in a marathon swimming in the open sea. He said he took a longer route as he can't see where his destination was, he complete the route.
He also gave inspiration talk to prisoners & making sure he shake each audience. He also did counselling for those affected by the sudden blindness.
From the show, it make me think. Allah maha Agung lagi Bijaksana. Setiap manusia adalah uniq. Allah cipta manusia with akal. Setiap manusia mempunyai hak untuk menentukan perjalanan hidupnya walaupun Allah dah tulis destinasi kite.
Mcm Dr Kelvin Wong, he does not his disability as kelemahan instead he work around the problem. He managed to achieve a lot in his life cos he knew that no one can help or tentukan his path but himself. He really has discipline & determination yg kuat & kental.
From there, I saw how I took things for granted. Allah kasi akal, jasmani & rohani yg sihat. But did I use it? Instead, I jadi malas. Alasan asyik penat. Tido lebih.
